We create traditional “Smyrneikos coffee” for 90 years and authentic “Espresso with a Greek DNA” for 30 years.
Grandpa Iakovos Draculis*, working at the local traditional coffee & pastry shop since his early childhood, knows coffee really (really, really) well.
(*The toddler on the right of the picture.)
Iakovos, bold by nature, establishes an exquisite coffee shop in the small town of Aliveri in Evia, following a lead that its seafront reminded of Smyrna. It didn’t. However, the signature blend he created did. The Draculi Family Greek Coffee was born.
With a little help from his wife and his youngest son Dinos and after buying his first electric coffee roaster, Iakovos manages to drastically evolve his “handmade” family business so that the name Draculi refers directly to coffee. He roasted a lot of coffee since then. We are talking tons.
(Iakovos’ date of birth shown on the picture below is false. He had to be registered as born in the year 1908 to leave Smyrna as a minor. His real birthdate is between 1901-1902)
The youngest son of Iakovos, a passionate man with a “fetish” for high quality, precision and tradition, keeps investing in technology, know-how and R&D. Thanks to him, the Draculi name is now the absolute synonym to coffee.
Dinos Draculi, constantly moved by challenge, decides to explore this “exotic” new coffee, espresso, and launch it to the Greek market introducing his own original blend. (Yes, he was bold.) For 8 consistent years, he dedicates himself to the quest for the best espresso, experimenting everyday. The result: the first espresso “with a Greek DNA”, for some equal to the Italian original, if not superior. (Dinos was also persistent. OK, maybe a little obsessive too.) His coffee is now honored by the most exclusive clientele of Athens (like Zonar’s café, Olympic Catering, Minion Department Store and iconic hotels like Hilton, Grande Bretagne and Pentelikon). Remember when we mentioned earlier that we’ve roasted tons of coffee? Well, we meant it.
To us filter coffee does not mean basic coffee. This year, we introduce the game changing system of freshly ground, metered coffee. We update all our filter coffee grinders to state-of-the-art electronic grinders with metered dispensers (starting at the iconic Grande Bretagne hotel). We are the first ones to ban all outdated technology and introduce the exclusive use of Thermos system for preserving and distributing our coffee to hotel chains.
The Draculi production unit and facilities get totally updated. Now the factory is equipped with the best machinery in Europe. (No wonder we have roasted this much coffee.)
Time to put the emphasis on branding. Two new brands are born, TUSSO espresso and So! Espresso, and all the other established Draculi brands get repackaged and re-launched.
The TUSSO espresso packaging gets awarded for its design at the Ermis Awards (renowned Greek advertising & design awards).
Another package design award at the Ermis Awards, this time gold, this time for Smyrneikos.
An important international distinction for the taste and quality of our TUSSO chocolate; the 3-star Superior Taste Award granted from iTQi in Belgium.
Our signature brand, “Smyrneikos” is now available in selected delis and leading supermarkets.
We emphasize on branding even more, investing in above the line communication for Smyrneikos and making good use of the social media momentum for both TUSSO espresso and Smyrneikos.
We are all about the future, connecting the name Draculi with anything breakthrough that favors the evolution of coffee. We already live in this future and feel happy to see you trusting us while we share this experience. Thank you.
